What time is drop-off on Monday?

A: Both day campers and overnight campers begin camp on Monday at 11:00 am.

What time is pick-up on Friday?
A: Camp ends on Friday for day campers and overnight campers at 3:00 pm.

What are the hours for day campers?
A: Day campers arrive Tuesday-Friday at 8:30 am. Day campers depart Monday-Thursday at 4:30 pm. Please note Monday arrival is 11:00 am for day campers and Friday departure is 3:00 pm.

Is there an option for day campers to stay for the evening sessions?
A: Yes. Day campers are welcome to stay for the evening sessions. There is additional cost of 50$ payable in cash the first day of camp at the registration table to cover the additional cost of the 4 suppers the camper will be staying for. The evening pick-up time for day campers is 8:30 pm if they stay for the evening session.

Will confirmations of camp registration be sent out?
A: Yes we send out an email confirming your registration. If you do not receive an email please do not hesitate to contact us as many emails end up in junk boxes etc.

What type of meals are served at the camp?                                                                            
A: Mount Alverno has an on-site cook who prepares a variety of healthy lifestyle choice meals. We focus on wholesome foods balanced by the foods from all the food groups.

Are snacks available at night?
A: There is juice and a snack available every night. In addition we sell pizza slices some evenings.

How many camps are held each year?
A: There are three weeks of camp. There are 2 weeks of COBA camp in Orangeville, Ontario and 1 additional week outside of Orangeville.

What if I do not want my picture or my child’s picture posted on the brochure or website?
A: Every camper/parent has the right to inform us of this request and we will happily fulfill it. This should be done prior to camp as once the brochure is made it is impossible to change it.

Is this a physically demanding camp?
A: Yes. Many former campers have called it a basketball boot-camp. It is physically demanding and you will be expected to participate in all activities except if injured.

Can an interested parent observe the camp or visit?
A: Yes. All parents and observers are welcome at anytime. Please feel free to ask Coach Oliver any questions regarding the training or camp.

What age groups can participate?
A: The camp ranges in age from 12-18 (CHANGE to 12-18). We have made exceptions in the past so please inquire if you have a more specific age-related question.

Are the camps for boys and girls?
A: We have boys and girls at all of our camps. Players are matched up against those who have similar skill sets.

Can I request a roommate? How are the rooms set-up?
A: The accommodations at Mount Alverno are military style dorms. The boys and girls have separate rooms. Each room has 20-30 beds each with a small storage unit. You will be able to choose a bed beside your friend.

What kind of instruction do you provide?
A: We provide a lot of one on one instruction as well as small group drills and games to help players improve their basketball skills. As our camp is focused on individual skill development, we do not play 5 on 5 outside of our evening sessions.

Do the boys and girls play together?
A: Yes and no. We create groups for our skill sessions based on skill level not simply on age and sex. Sometimes we create segregated groups but usually there is a mix. We want to create the best competition possible for all involved. Often in the evening sessions we do play boys and girls separate in our 5 on 5 games.

What kind of instructors do you have?
A: Coach Oliver and a staff of current university level coaches including other CIS head coaches and assistant coaches act as the primary instructors. In addition, current university level players will act as assistant coaches at the camp. The athletic development coach is also a certified instructor with a basketball-specific background.

Do you have guest speakers?
A: Yes. we usually have guest speakers that cover sport science related topics including sport psychology, recovery and regeneration, nutrition and a variety of other topics.

How many kids attend your camp?
A: We have limited enrolment for all our camps of 80 per week because we wish to keep the focus on the individual camper. We also have limited overnight spots so please register early.

What is your cancellation policy?
A: We understand that injuries and last second emergencies sometimes prevent players from attending a camp. We ask that you contact us as soon as possible so that we can process the refund. The deposit is non-refundable however the balance can be returned. We will not provide refunds once the camp has begun.

Should campers bring bathing suits?
A: No, there is no swimming at COBA camp.

What if I have food allergies or other dietary concerns?
A: Please inform us as soon as possible. Our kitchen staff can prepare special meals as long as we have advanced notice. Many campers with allergies have attended camp in the past with no issues. Mount Alverno also has special rules regarding food to help prevent any allergy problems.

A:Orangeville is located north of Brampton, Ontario and about an hour drive from Guelph, Kitchener, Toronto, Hamilton and Newmarket.
